Single Elimination

The classic knockout format. Players are seeded into a bracket, winners advance, and one loss sends you home. It is the fastest way to crown a champion, which makes it perfect for one-night events, large fields on a time limit, and high-drama finishes where every match is do-or-die.

Double Elimination

Every player gets a second chance. Lose once and you drop into the losers bracket, where you can fight your way back to the grand final. Double elimination rewards consistency and produces a truer champion, since nobody is knocked out by one bad game. It is the gold standard for competitive events like darts, air hockey, billiards, and esports.

Triple Elimination

Three lives per player. Triple elimination adds a third bracket tier, so it takes three losses to be knocked out of the event. It is the most forgiving elimination format and a favorite for high-stakes cash tournaments, where players want maximum protection against an early upset. Very few bracket tools support it; Super Bracket Builder runs it natively.

Round Robin

Everyone plays everyone. Round robin is the fairest format there is: no bad draws, no early exits, and every player gets a full night of matches. Standings are decided by overall record, which makes it the natural choice for leagues, club nights, and any event where playing time matters as much as the trophy.

Round Robin Pods

Group-stage play for bigger fields. The field is split into pods, and each pod runs its own round robin. You get all the fairness of round robin without the endless schedule a single big group would create. Use it on its own, or as a qualifying stage where pod winners advance to a playoff bracket.

Swiss System

Smart pairing by record. In a Swiss tournament nobody is eliminated: each round, players are paired against opponents with the same record, so matches get more competitive as the event goes on. A large field can be sorted in just a handful of rounds, which is why Swiss is the standard for chess, card games, and big open events.

Multi-Bracket

Several brackets inside one event. Multi-bracket splits your field into cohorts that each play their own bracket, all managed as a single tournament. Run an A division and a B division side by side, split a big weekly into parallel brackets, or give every skill tier its own race to a title without juggling separate events.

Placement Spinoff Brackets

Nobody stops playing. Placement spinoffs are an optional add-on for elimination events: players knocked out in each round drop into their own mini bracket and play out their exact finishing position. Instead of a tie for fifth, your final standings read 1 through 12 with every spot earned on the table.
